What is MBARC?

The Morongo Basin Amateur Radio Club is an organization for licensed amateurs and interested newcomers to connect with one another and with their community. MBARC has been serving the Morongo Basin, associated communities, and the world since 1971.

What does MBARC do?

MBARC owns and maintains linked repeater systems located on hilltops and other strategic sites around the Morongo Basin. These systems enable low-power radios to communicate in areas where direct communication would otherwise be impossible. For example, a "walkie-talkie" (more commonly called "handheld transceiver" – or just "HT" among radio amateurs) in Pipes Canyon can easily connect with another handheld transceiver in Twentynine Palms. Club dues help support the continued upkeep of these systems.

We promote community-wide understanding of the amateur radio communication services available to the public during times of emergency or natural disaster.

We promote interest and proficiency in amateur radio communications, particularly in improving operating and technical skills.

We conduct activities and programs to advance the general interest and welfare of amateur radio in our community.

Upcoming Events

Anyone with an interest in Amateur Radio may attend our monthly meetings. You do not have to be licensed to attend the meetings. Of course, we do highly encourage you to pursue your license! Meetings are held every third Saturday of the month at 1400 (2:00 pm) at:

Club Nets

MBARC members and visitors who are licensed amateurs meet regularly on-the-air, with varying levels of formality. These on-air meetings are call "nets". All licensed amateurs are welcome to participate, and invited to join in when the net control operator calls for visitors. All times presented here are all local time ("America/Los_Angeles").

"Cawfee Tawk" Net

Cawfee Tawk is an informal net meeting Monday through Saturday, running from 10:00am (1000) to 11:00am (1100) on the Morongo Basin Amateur Radio Club Linked Repeater System. Discussions are on any topic that may be of interest.

Monday Night ARES Net

The Amateur Radio Emergency Services net weekly net is conducted Monday night at 7:15pm (1915). The purpose of this net is to disseminate local area information, to pass-on Orange Section ARES information and bulletins, to check our equipment and enlighten the amateur community with items of interest. All licensed amateur radio operators interested in public service are welcome.

Tuesday Night Net

The Morongo Basin Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly net Tuesday night at 7:00pm (1900). The purpose of this net is to promote fellowship, test equipment and disseminate bulletins and information of interest to the amateur radio community.
